HDR is by definition the extension of the dynamic range portrayed in the final image beyond what the camera can capture in one shot.

This process takes information from a set of bracketed photographs (photos of the same scene with different exposures) and blends them into a single image, This increases the range of information (or detail) that can be included in one photograph.

This is done using a software packages (I use Photomatix pro) designed just for this process.
